What Will I Learn?

  • How to assemble a team and devise the attack technique for fighting various kinds of fires
  • How to select the proper tools to force entry into a building
  • How to provide proper ventilation in a building based on the structure and nature of the fire.
  • Our focus will be on structural fire control and rescue operations as well as fire and life safety initiatives, preparedness, and maintenance.

Description

FIRE 2 provides advanced instruction in structural firefighting operations and incident response. Topics include fireground strategy and tactics, ventilation coordination, fire origin and cause awareness, rescue operations, incident command support, and firefighter safety. Students complete practical skill assessments aligned with Firefighter II competency requirements.

Requirements

  • This course is for Emergency Medical Technicians with a current NREMT certification, those currently employed and those interested in the fire industry.
  • There is a lab requirement for this course that will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 pm am to 5:50 pm.
  • Students who register for this course are also required to register for the Fire 1Fire 1 lab and Fire 2 lab, and Hazmat courses as part of the Firefighter certification.

Instructor Bio

Brad Buehler started his career as a firefighter in the Air Force, and was honorably discharged after completing four years of service.  He then became a civilian firefighter/fire officer/EMT and served in those positions for the next 20 years. He has an extensive background in technical (rope) rescue, swift water and back country rescue. Recently, his focus has shifted toward educating aspiring emergency responders tactical firefighting techniques, critical thinking, and overall safety on any emergency scene.
