Description

This course is taught at the HazMat awareness and operational levels. The course meets competencies recommended by NFPA 1072 and is supplemented by information from government agencies such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Department of Transportation (DOT).

Requirements

  • This course is for Emergency Medical Technicians with a current NREMT certification who may be first on the scene of a hazardous materials emergency.
  • This course is taught throughtout the Fire 1 and Fire 2 programs.
  • Students who register for this course are also required to register for the Fire 1Fire 1 Lab, Fire 2, and Fire 2 Lab courses as part of the Firefighter certification.

Instructor Bio

Brad Buehler started his career as a firefighter in the Air Force, and was honorably discharged after completing four years of service.  He then became a civilian firefighter/fire officer/EMT and served in those positions for 20 years. He has an extensive background in Technical (rope) Rescue, Swift water and back country rescue. Recently, his focus has shifted toward educating aspiring Emergency Responders tactical firefighting techniques, critical thinking, and overall safety on any emergency scene.
