EMT Basic In-Person Course

This EMT course is the in-person training option, providing hands-on instruction aligned with National EMS Education Standards and Idaho requirements to prepare students for emergency care and operational duties as an Emergency Medical Technician. Students gain competency in patient assessment, airway management, trauma and medical emergencies, communication, legal and ethical practice, and equipment use through 144 hours of instruction plus clinical experience. Graduates who earn 75% or higher qualify to take the National Registry of EMT certification exam. Offered each Spring and Fall, students must meet eligibility, health, background, and age requirements prior to certification.

Note: This course includes a seperate in-person lab component held on the CSI Twin Falls campus.

EMT Basic Online Course

This EMT course is the online training option, combining flexible online coursework with required in-person labs and clinical experience to meet National EMS Education Standards and Idaho requirements. Students develop competency in patient assessment, airway management, trauma and medical emergencies, communication, legal and ethical practice, and proper equipment use while completing 144 hours plus clinical requirements. Graduates who earn 75% or higher qualify to take the National Registry of EMT certification exam. Students must meet eligibility, health, background, and age requirements prior to certification.

Note: This course includes a required in-person lab component held on the CSI Twin Falls campus.

EMT Basic Lab

This course is a laboratory study of the National EMS Education Standards for the Emergency Medical Technician including: Preparatory, Pharmacology, Assessment, Airway, shock and Resuscitation, Medical Emergencies, Trauma, Special Patient Population and EMS Operations.

This course must be taken simultaneously with the an EMT-Basic course. 

EMT Basic Certification = 144 hours + Clinical

Description of Program

This course is a lecture study of the National EMS Education Standards for the Emergency Medical Technician including preparatory, pharmacology, assessment, airway, shock and resuscitation, medical emergencies, trauma, special patient population, and EMS operations.

Note: There is a lab required for this class that must be taken simultaneously. Practical labs will be completed on the Twin Falls campus.

This class requires verification that you are a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen. Eligibility must be verified before the class begins.

Instructor Bio

Devin Anderson is the EMS Lead Instructor with the College of Southern Idaho. He has over 10 years of teaching experience and has spent the last 4 years teaching and testing EMS students for various programs and colleges. Over the course of his career, he has spent time working in various roles for police, fire, and EMS agencies which have given him a holistic view of how emergency services agencies work together.
