CNA Skills Testing
CNA skills testing assesses candidates through practical examinations, evaluating their competency in essential patient care tasks such as hygiene, vital sign measurement, mobility assistance, and infection control.
CNA Written Exam
After passing the CNA skills test, students can schedule their CNA written exam. Exams are held multiple times each month at the CSI campus and occasionally at the Burley campus.

Registeration must be done in person and bring your blue card from the skills test as verification of passing.

If you were unable to take the CNA skills or written exam within the allotted time frame, it is possible to request an extension. To do so, you will need an approval-to-test letter from the Idaho Department of Health & Welfare.

Renewing Your CNA Certificate
To renew your CNA certificate through the Idaho Department of Health & Welfare, you must complete a renewal form. Your employer must sign this form to verify your work history as a paid CNA or in nursing/nursing-related services, showing a minimum of eight hours of employment within the two years prior to your certificate’s expiration.
If your employer is unable to sign the form, you may instead submit a valid W-2 or paystub that includes your employer’s information.
If you cannot provide evidence of at least eight hours of paid CNA work within the two-year period before your certificate expires, you must contact the Idaho Department of Health & Welfare to request an approval-to-test letter.
