Who Should Attend?
This course is recommended for anyone whether you are new to the workforce or have been in the workforce for years and are interested in beginning a new career in the pharmaceutical industry.Walk Away With
Students who successfully complete this course are eligible to sit for the National Certification Exam for Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT).
Students residing outside of Idaho should verify with their State Board of Pharmacy to ensure this course meets their state's registration and certification requirements.
Class Requirements
- Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age to apply for a Pharmacy Technician License. Guardian/Parental consent is required by code for applicants under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.

National Certification Exam for Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT)
The Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (EXCPT) is a nationally recognized certification exam administered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). This exam is designed to assess the knowledge and skills necessary for a pharmacy technician to effectively assist pharmacists and ensure optimal patient care. Successfully passing the EXCPT exam certifies that individuals have met the standards required to perform as competent pharmacy technicians in various healthcare settings.
Requirements for the ExCPT
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED/ high school equivalency; or be scheduled to earn a high school diploma or GED/ high school equivalency in the next 12 months.
- Must have completed a Pharmacy Technician training or Education Program within the last 5 years.
How to Apply for the ExCPT
Steps for Registering for the EXCPT Exam through NHA
- Set Up an Account: Begin by creating an account on the NHA website.
- Request to Test: Submit a request to test through your NHA account.
- Approval Process: Your request will be reviewed by the workforce department. Approval or denial of your request will be communicated via email.
- Notification: If approved, you will receive an email notification. Follow the instructions to log in and schedule your exam with PSI.
Important Information
- The cost of the first exam attempt will be covered for up to one year following successful completion of the course.
- Final grades from the class must be posted before requesting to test.
- Fees for the second attempt and any subsequent attempts, or attempts made after one calendar year from the course end date, are the responsibility of the student.
- Do not submit a second testing request before completing your first exam attempt. Duplicate registrations may result in the student being liable for additional charges.
