What this service includes?

An official review of submitted electrical technical instruction transcripts to assess compliance with Idaho Journeyman Electrician educational standards. Evaluation is limited to technical instruction coursework and excludes work
experience hours.

Description

The Electrical Transcript Review is a formal evaluation of a student’s past apprenticeship or trade-related schooling completed outside of Idaho in non-reciprocal states.

  • CSI staff will review submitted transcripts, syllabi, and supporting documentation to determine if the related instruction aligns with Idaho apprenticeship standards for classroom hours, trade-specific content, and code instruction.
  • Based on this evaluation, CSI will make a year placement decision for the student within the CSI Electrical Apprenticeship program:
    • Year 1, 2, 3, or 4 placement, if partial years are approved, or
    • Credit for all four years, if the coursework meets Idaho standards for the entire apprenticeship.
  • Students will be provided with an Out-of-State Placement Letter documenting the placement decision and any remaining requirements needed to complete Idaho-related instruction.

Note: This review only evaluates related instruction (school hours). Work experience or on-the-job training is not evaluated. Placement decisions are educational determinations only and do not guarantee licensing eligibility in Idaho.

Required Documents For Reviewal

To complete the Electrical Transcript Review, please submit the following documents to Janelle Sexton at jsexton1@csi.edu

  1. Official transcripts or completion certificates for all four years of related instruction
  2. Course syllabi or detailed course descriptions/outcomes for all four years
  3. In body of email please provide Institution contact information: Institution name, location, and phone number
Incomplete submissions may delay processing of your review. Note: CSI may need written permission to contact your previous school or training provider to verify enrollment, coursework, or completion. If required, you will be contacted with a consent form.

Walk Away With:

After submitting the Electrical Transcript Review, you will receive an Out-of-State Related Instruction Placement Letter from the College of Southern Idaho (CSI). This official letter can be submitted to Idaho DOPL and documents how your out-of-state classroom instruction applies toward Idaho apprenticeship education requirements. Your placement letter
will indicate one of the following outcomes:

  • Full approval of related instruction (Years 1–4),
  • Partial approval, where some apprenticeship years are approved and others require completion in Idaho, or
  • No approval, if coursework does not meet Idaho’s related instruction standards
The letter will also outline any remaining related instruction needed to meet Idaho requirements. Important: This determination applies to technical instruction (school
hours) only and does not evaluate work experience or on-the-job training hours. Approval does not guarantee Idaho licensure but provides documentation for DOPL review.

Who Should Use This Service ?

This service is for anyone who has completed an electrical apprenticeship course out of state and needs their education reviewed by an accredited electrical program in Idaho, as required by DOPL. It is generally intended for individuals from states without a reciprocal agreement to determine if their training will be recognized for Idaho licensure.
