Description
The Mental Health First Aid course is designed by The National Council for Mental Wellbeing and facilitated by a certified instructor(s). The 8-hour Hybrid course introduces you to the basic concepts of mental health awareness and how to apply them when assisting someone in need. Additionally, you will learn about various resources available in your community. Mental Health First Aid teaches about recovery and being resilient. The program focuses the belief that individuals experiencing mental health challenges can use their strengths to stay well.
This is an 8-hour course that includes 2-hours of online course work done in preparation for the 6-hour in-person instructor led session held on June 27th. Access to the online materials will be available starting Thursday, June 22nd.
What Will I Learn?
Just as traditional CPR and First aid courses teach you how to be that initial responder to assist with an emergency or accident, the Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis.
Topics Covered in the class include:
- Learn how to apply the ALGEE action plan
- Depression and mood disorders
- Anxiety disorders
- Trauma
- Psychosis
- Substance Use disorders
Who Should Attend?
This course is for anyone in the community that would like to learn more about mental health and how to identify and help someone who may be suffering.
This class is useful for occupations that work with the general public including, educators, HR professionals, business owners, managers and supervisors, public safety personnel, and medical professionals.
What Will You Walk Away With?
Participants will walk away with a nationally recognized 2-year certification in Adult Mental Health First-Aid issued by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.Instructor Bio
Megan Humble is a Certified Adult and Youth Mental Health Instructor, as well as a QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Instructor with Connect Hope Magic Valley. She is passionate about bringing suicide prevention and mental health awareness education to the Magic Valley. Megan enjoys spending time with her husband and 4 children, playing pickleball, watching Broadway shows, and enjoying the outdoors.
